How to Test Your Rate Card Updates
Purpose
This article explains how to verify lane rate and fee rate updates in Cario by using Quick Quote to ensure the updated rates are calculating correctly before operational use.
Testing rate updates helps confirm that:
- Lane rates are effective as expected
- Fee rates (such as fuel surcharge) are applied correctly
- Quoted prices match your configured rate cards
When Should You Use This Workflow?
Use this workflow whenever you:
- Update Lane Rates
- Update Fee Rates (e.g. fuel surcharge, handling fees)
- Import or uprate a rate card
- Need to validate pricing before bookings go live
Workflow: Step-by-Step
Step 1: Update Lane Rates
- Navigate to Administration → Lane Rates

- Select the relevant:
- Carrier
- Rate Card

- Update or import the required lane rates:
- From Zone / To Zone
- Minimum charge
- Flat rate / Per rate


- Ensure the Effective Date is set correctly
- Rates become effective from the selected date onward, not retrospectively

Step 2: Update Fee Rates (If Applicable)
- Go to Administration → Fee Rates

- Select the relevant:
- Carrier
- Fee rate card
- Review and update fees such as:
- Fuel surcharge
- Dangerous goods fees
- Handling or manual fees
- Confirm the effective date for fee changes
⚠️ Some carrier cost fees may be maintained by Cario and cannot be edited by customers.
Step 3: Navigate to Quick Quote
- Open Quick Quote

- Select the correct:
- Customer
- Pickup and delivery locations
- Shipment details (weight, dimensions, container type)
Step 4: Forward the Pickup Date
🚨 Important
- Always set the Pickup Date at least one day in the future
- Rate card updates do not apply on the same day they are updated

This ensures:
- Lane rates are pulled from the updated effective date
- Fee rates (including fuel surcharge) are applied correctly
Step 5: Calculate and Review the Quote
- Click Calculate

- Review the returned quote results:
- Freight charge
- Fee breakdown
- Fuel surcharge
- Total cost and ETA
- Confirm the quoted values align with:
- Updated lane rates
- Updated fee rates
- Expected pricing logic
Key Notes & Best Practices
- Rate updates only apply from their effective date onward
- Same-day testing will not reflect newly updated rates
- Always validate both freight and fees
